The present times call for openness towards new approaches in dealing with life’s countless challenges. It is a matter of reframing old beliefs to accommodate a variety of options and realize classrooms of possibilities. In the realm of education, alternative modes of learning are being implemented in the elementary public school system.

For almost 30 years, Culianan Learning Center in Zamboanga City, Philippines, has adopted the peer-led program, Enhanced Instructional Management by Parents, Community and Teachers (e-IMPACT) to address the high population of children who need access to schooling, the inequality of educational opportunities and the low budget allocated for education. More than promoting responsibility and leadership, the program redefines learning as collaborative work among members of the school community.
