Aninag #01

Aninag #01Download Aninag #01 (605) Welcome to the inaugural issue of Aninag!

For the past few months, me and my co-founders Buck ang Gigie have been busy discussing aninag.org as well as preparing the photo stories that you now see in this issue.

On my part, I had the additional task of designing and coding the site from scratch as well as following up my co photographers through texts and emails about their submissions as our (moving) deadlines came nearer and nearer. Finally, after a few weeks delay from the initial launching date, aninag.org is finally up.

So, what’s in store in Issue #01?

Buck Pago looks at the population issue in Metro Manila. With the Reproductive Health bill languishing in Congress, he contemplates the unbridled growth’s impact on society . In a related story, he presents a series of artificial contraceptives that are currently available but are often not used by poorer couples because of the high costs.

For the past few months, Gigie Cruz have been visiting dams to cover the impact of climate change on the country’s water supply.

On the lighter side, Estan Cabigas (that’s me), presents the going ons in a typcial cockfighting arena. Taken in Cebu, this is a two part series that shows both sides of the enclosure. Part 1 the preparations and the spectators and Part 2, the pas de deux, or more a dance to the death between two cocks.

To wrap up this issue, guest writer Angelica Carballo interviews Lyn Rillon, a young photojournalist working for the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
